Vintage Winnie the Pooh Baby Shower

February 17, 2013 - Author: Platinum Planner

This may be one of our favorite baby shower themes to date – Vintage Winnie-the-Pooh.  It’s perfect for any gender, and perfect for a neutral shower.  Since this particular shower was thrown to celebrate the arrival of a new baby boy, Tristan, subtle splashes of baby blue were added throughout the decor.  The shower was thrown at a beautiful country club.  Our goal was to maintain the inspiration of Winnie-the-Pooh while keeping it elegant and adding a little modern twist.

The Invitations

The invitations were a combination of solid beige, baby blue, sage green, and classic white papers.  A chocolate brown and beige polka dot print was added to the outside of the invitation for a modern touch.  A Winnie-the-Pooh quote (mom-to-be’s favorite) was added to the flap of the invitation.

The Guest Table

One large table was used to accommodate the 25 guests.   Simple white linens covered the table.  A burlap runner was placed down the center of the table.  Four large centerpieces were placed along the runner.  The centerpieces were made with large glass hurricanes filled with green moss, a rustic decorative sphere covered with yellow flowers and greenery.  Wooden sprigs were arranged around the sphere along with three tall baby blue curly twigs that were arranged in the top.  The large blue sprigs were approximately 5 feet tall, which worked wonderfully with the high ceilings of the room.  Cattails adorned with beaded bees were also added to the centerpieces for a little bit of *bling*.

Blue and white hydrangeas were placed in mason jars filled with river rocks and water.  Clear glass candle holders that looked like small flower or honey pots were filled with water and tea lights were floated in them.  Yankee Candle Company has this great scent called “soft blanket” – perfect for a baby shower.

Old books were covered using brown paper grocery bags – titles of Winnie-the-Pooh books and the authors name were written on the cover.  The books were stacked and tied together with a piece of twine.  Purple flowers cascaded down the sides of the books and a tea light was placed on top to complete the look.

The Favors

Bags of honey-colored caramel corn were tied with a simple baby blue ribbon and a handmade “For the Rumbly in your Tumbly” gift tag.  The caramel corn was purchased from the Grand Rapids Popcorn Company – really affordable and tasty!

Additional Decor

A handmade sign was made and displayed in the corner of the room.  A wood burner was used to “write” on the directional arrows.  A simple bouquet of baby blue balloons were tied to the top of the sign the day of the shower to complete the look.

A handmade Winnie-the-Pooh map was created with pencil sketching and shading on a yard of beige canvas.  The map was hung on a twine line that was hung across the length of a large wall in the room.  Winnie-the-Pooh quotes were printed in beige and baby blue cardstock and hung on either side of the map with simple wooden clothespins.

The Cake and Food Tables

The host chose a plated lunch for the guests with their choice of salad, and a sandwich.  Appetizers and a beverage table were set up prior to the guest’s arrival for their snacking pleasure.  Appetizers consisted of a veggie tray (Rabbit’s Garden) and a fruit tray (Piglet’s Fr-Fr-Fruit Stand).  Sweet Tea and lemonade were displayed in beverage dispensers and mason jar drinking glasses were set out for the guests.  A sweet treat, tangerine candy sticks, were placed in a short mason jar (Tigger Tails).

The cake was designed and ordered by the host of the shower.  The cake was made by the baker from the country club and it tasted WONDERFUL!!  We simply added the purple flower topper and decorated the base of the cake stand to match the rest of the shower decor.

A “Very Hungry Caterpillar” 1st Birthday Party

February 10, 2013 - Author: Platinum Planner

Our first official Platinum event was a Very Hungry Caterpillar themed 1st Birthday Party.  Thank you to Jacob’s mom and dad for letting us help with this very special day.  Happy Birthday, Jacob!

Very Hungry Caterpillar Guest Tables

The tables were covered in lime green plastic table cloths.  A burlap runner was added down the center of the tables for added texture and neutral color.  Large and small circles were punched out of colored construction paper and placed along the runner for added color.

Mason jar centerpieces were created by filling the bottom of the jars with moss and adding a paper leaf.  The caterpillar was created using colored pom poms and pipe cleaners for the antenna.  The cute creature was attached to a green floral stick for support.  The lids of the mason jars had holes drilled in them to make them appear as if a little boy had just caught a new pet.

The large caterpillar centerpieces were made from paper plates, with little feet made of pipe cleaner-wrapped popsicle sticks.  Yellow construction paper eyes and purple pipe cleaner antenna completed the darling creation.

The cake table was decorated with all of the food that the caterpillar ate throughout the book.  Labels were attached to popsicle sticks and stuck into floral foam covered in moss.  Very Hungry Caterpillar cupcake toppers were also pushed into the floral foam for an added touch.  The table was sprinkled with fake leaves that had holes cut into them with a hole punch.  Lastly, a large caterpillar made of paper lanterns was hung above the cake table to complete the look.

Very Hungry Caterpillar Cake

The table wouldn’t have been complete without a cake.  This darling cake was made by a relative of the birthday boy.  I love that she used Hershey’s Kisses as the feet – so cute!!  She certainly was talented!

Very Hungry Caterpillar Favors

Very Hungry Caterpillar Favor Table

A treasure chest was filled with great little toys and candy for the kids to take home.  Very Hungry Caterpillar favor bags were placed on the table so kids could make their own favors (and parents could decide which toys were age-appropriate for their little ones).

Very Hungry Caterpillar Activity Table

Let’s be honest, 1st birthday parties are all about the kids!  To ensure that Jacob’s friends had a great time, activity tables were set up.  One table had butterfly-shaped sugar cookies for the kids to decorate.  The colored frosting was placed in clear squeeze bottles.

Very Hungry Caterpillar Coloring Activity Table

A coloring table was set up with bowls of crayons and handmade butterfly crayons that Jacob’s wonderful family made by melting crayons in butterfly tins.

Very Hungry Caterpillar Bookmark

Very Hungry Caterpillar Bookmark

Very Hungry Caterpillar coloring pages along with bookmarks were printed for the kids to color.  After the bookmarks were printed, a hole was punched in the end and colored ribbon was added to each one.  Now that we had artwork for the kid’s to create, we needed a place for them to display it……

Very Hungry Caterpillar Clothespins

A string was attached to the wall with these darling caterpillar clothespins for kids to display their artwork.  The clothespin caterpillars were made with colored pom poms and fuzzy pipe cleaner antenna.

Decorating a large space can be quite a challenge.  This is an easy and affordable way to decorate a large wall!  A large 50-foot caterpillar was made by connecting paper plates together with brads.  A “Happy Birthday Jacob” saying was added to the center of the caterpillar.

Very Hungry Caterpillar Clementines

A cute snack was made by adding fuzzy pipe cleaner antenna and construction paper eyes to clementines.  Sucker sticks were pushed up through the middle of the clementines and they were dropped through holes that were drilled into a hat box display.
