A “Very Hungry Caterpillar” 1st Birthday PartyFebruary 10, 2013 - Author: Platinum Planner - Comments are closed
Our first official Platinum event was a Very Hungry Caterpillar themed 1st Birthday Party. Thank you to Jacob’s mom and dad for letting us help with this very special day. Happy Birthday, Jacob!
Very Hungry Caterpillar Guest Tables
The tables were covered in lime green plastic table cloths. A burlap runner was added down the center of the tables for added texture and neutral color. Large and small circles were punched out of colored construction paper and placed along the runner for added color.
Mason jar centerpieces were created by filling the bottom of the jars with moss and adding a paper leaf. The caterpillar was created using colored pom poms and pipe cleaners for the antenna. The cute creature was attached to a green floral stick for support. The lids of the mason jars had holes drilled in them to make them appear as if a little boy had just caught a new pet.
The large caterpillar centerpieces were made from paper plates, with little feet made of pipe cleaner-wrapped popsicle sticks. Yellow construction paper eyes and purple pipe cleaner antenna completed the darling creation.
Very Hungry Caterpillar Cake Table
The cake table was decorated with all of the food that the caterpillar ate throughout the book. Labels were attached to popsicle sticks and stuck into floral foam covered in moss. Very Hungry Caterpillar cupcake toppers were also pushed into the floral foam for an added touch. The table was sprinkled with fake leaves that had holes cut into them with a hole punch. Lastly, a large caterpillar made of paper lanterns was hung above the cake table to complete the look.
The table wouldn’t have been complete without a cake. This darling cake was made by a relative of the birthday boy. I love that she used Hershey’s Kisses as the feet – so cute!! She certainly was talented!
Very Hungry Caterpillar Favors
A treasure chest was filled with great little toys and candy for the kids to take home. Very Hungry Caterpillar favor bags were placed on the table so kids could make their own favors (and parents could decide which toys were age-appropriate for their little ones).
Very Hungry Caterpillar Activity Table
Let’s be honest, 1st birthday parties are all about the kids! To ensure that Jacob’s friends had a great time, activity tables were set up. One table had butterfly-shaped sugar cookies for the kids to decorate. The colored frosting was placed in clear squeeze bottles.
A coloring table was set up with bowls of crayons and handmade butterfly crayons that Jacob’s wonderful family made by melting crayons in butterfly tins.
Very Hungry Caterpillar coloring pages along with bookmarks were printed for the kids to color. After the bookmarks were printed, a hole was punched in the end and colored ribbon was added to each one. Now that we had artwork for the kid’s to create, we needed a place for them to display it……
A string was attached to the wall with these darling caterpillar clothespins for kids to display their artwork. The clothespin caterpillars were made with colored pom poms and fuzzy pipe cleaner antenna.
Very Hungry Caterpillar Decor
Decorating a large space can be quite a challenge. This is an easy and affordable way to decorate a large wall! A large 50-foot caterpillar was made by connecting paper plates together with brads. A “Happy Birthday Jacob” saying was added to the center of the caterpillar.
A cute snack was made by adding fuzzy pipe cleaner antenna and construction paper eyes to clementines. Sucker sticks were pushed up through the middle of the clementines and they were dropped through holes that were drilled into a hat box display.
